Faux Silver Candlesticks

Candlestick Makeover DIY Quick Tip

I like shiny new things as much as the next girl, but my stay-at-home-mom paycheck is nonexistent and doesn’t allow for an extravagant decorating budget.  As a result, I have learned to get creative and put a new spin on things I already own for a fresh vibe.  One of my favorite things to revamp are my faux silver candlesticks.  They tend to stay on the mantel year round, but I like to give them a new look each month and the trick is a little hot glue.

For the #MayMantel, I wanted to give the candlesticks a sweet, spring look.  This DIY Quick Tip takes a whole 5 minutes, so plug-in that hot glue gun and let’s get to work.

For this revamp you will need:

  • Candlesticks
  • Glass Hurricanes
  • Decorative Floral Wire
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • Scissors

Begin by adding a line of hot glue around the rim of the candlestick and place the glass hurricane on top of the glue, holding firmly until it has set.  Don’t worry, the hot glue can be easily removed later from both the glass and the candlestick.

Bend a hook shape at the end of the floral wire.  Add a dab of hot blue and hook it onto the top of the hurricane.  Allow the glue to set before moving on.

Add a dab of hot glue every 6 inches or so, and tack the floral wire to the glass hurricane, spiraling your way around the glass as you go.

Continue wrapping the wire around the edge where the glass and candlestick meet, clip the wire, add a dab of glue, and tuck the end in.

Add a candle and this project is ready to be put on display.  A quick, easy way to give your existing décor a fun, new look.  Happy hot gluing!
