Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Today has been a fun day filled with shenanigans, embarrassing my children, rainbows, gold candy, and green dye.  It may seem silly to get all hyped up over a holiday like St. Patty’s Day, but it brings me joy to bring a smile to my kid’s faces.  That, an anything that gets my family to sit down for dinner together is A-Okay in my book.  With that being said, I thought I would share a few photos from our family’s celebration.

The leprechauns came while we were sleeping last night.  Those rascally devils threw clean laundry all about the house, trashed the living room with toilet paper, dyed every water filled object green, strew shamrocks all over floor, and roped the kids bedroom doors off with green ribbon and candy.  Not even the pets were safe from the leprechaun’s hijinks.  It was  madness!

The outside of the house had already been prepped for St. Patrick’s Day.  Over the last couple weeks I had put together some St. Patty’s Day containers, flower pots, and a garland above the front door.  This gave me time to prepare our feast for the festivus.

After school, the little lad and lass munched on this rainbow fruit platter complete with a marshmallow cloud and Rolo gold.  Pretty, delicious, and oh so easy to assemble.

The kids satisfied for the time being, it was time to set the table.  A few dollar store shamrocks and coins, chargers from my wedding, napkins from the linen closet, and a few additional touches to make the table look festive for the Irish holiday.

I even got off my lazy butt and ironed the table cloth.  As you can tell, ironing is not my forte and it is one of my failures in domestic duty.  Oh well, I have other redeeming qualities, like my ability to run power tools.

After dinner, we dined on this truly decadent rainbow cake made by my daughter, our baker in training.  The layers turned out gorgeous!  To create the cake, she made a vanilla cake batter, divided it into 6 portions, dyed each portion, and baked them as directed.  The same thing was done for the buttercream frosting.  It was quite an undertaking, but it turned out fantastic.

With that, we took our full bellies to the couch to relax and digest our enormous piece of cake.  Another St. Patty’s Day has come to a close and spring is officially just days away.  May a little green Irish luck find you this year, and have a Happy St. Patrick’s Day, friends!
